Giving your players a code to crack is the main goal when setting up your own cryptogram. Challenging, but interesting and different :)
You can start building your cryptogram directly via the link below
Start my cryptogram! or learn more first! :)
How does a cryptogram work?
The cryptogram is 'just' a sentence, which gets encrypted into random numbers. As the puzzle solver you need to find which number belongs to which character. And this can be pretty challenging!
Puzzle players need to analyse the character/number patterns within the encrypted words and use the words that they descrypted already to understand the structure of the sentence. This will help solve other words and unlock more characters.
You as the puzzle owner have a bit of a challenge yourself since you decide which sentence is going to be encrypted. It needs to be a sentence with enough words and context to be solveable. Puzzel.org has built-in ways to help you with this though :).
The 'Settings' tab offers the 'Helper' field that you can use to provide the puzzle player with some filled-in characters via multiple options. This might be very helpful if you want to make solving less hardcore! :)
How do players share /submit their completed cryptogram?
Tracking (student) results is a cool feature that Puzzel.org has built in for upgraded subscriptions. You can add forced registration to see individual results (with time spent), or add a completion message with a 'collect user info' option that allows you to export the submitted cryptogram completions.
Can the cryptogram be embedded on my website?
Yes! The cryptogram can easily be embedded through a sample code-fragment. See the example puzzle below for a preview. You do need an upgraded account for this.
Can the puzzle be customised?
Yes! You can adjust the colors, look of the cells, fonts and a lot of individual settings to make sure the cryptogram looks the way you want it to.
How will my cryptogram look if I upgrade?
Below you see an interactive example cryptogram that shows the clean version of the cryptogram. No Puzzel.org reference, just the cryptogram. Clean fun! :)
How many people can play my cryptogram?
The free version allows 60 cryptogram plays per month per account. You can upgrade to a better subscription to allow more cryptogram plays.
How can I make my cryptogram easier to solve?
Use the 'Helper' field on the 'Settings' tab. This will give your puzzle players more characters to work with from the start, to provide some context. Give them any character you want, or all of the vowels, or the most common character! :)
