Fair name picker
Everybody comes up once before anybody comes up twice. Cold-calling without the dread, and without the favourites.
When to use it
Cold-calling in a lesson, when every pupil should answer once before anyone answers twice. Picking who presents next in a team meeting or on a training day. Setting the order of speakers at a workshop, so nobody can say the draw favoured anyone.
What makes it this
Built on the Wheel of fortune generator with these changed. Everything else is the default.
- Everyone before anyone twice
Each spin only picks from the segments that have come up least often, so the wheel works through all of them before anything repeats.
In the builder: How it plays › Which one comes up
- Finished once every segment has come up
Progress becomes the share of segments landed on, so the activity is only complete when the wheel has been through all of them.
In the builder: How it plays › Which one comes up
- Spin length in seconds
How long the wheel keeps turning before it settles, between 1 and 60.

Spin for whoever is next. Everyone gets a turn before anyone comes up twice, and the wheel is finished once it has been all the way round the class. Copy it and swap in your own names.
14 segments
Why the example is built this way
-
Fourteen names, one colour each.
The wheel's colours run to fourteen, so every name gets its own and no two neighbouring slices match. Copy it and paste your own class list in.
-
Four seconds a spin, not seven.
Fourteen turns at the default length is well over a minute and a half of watching a wheel. Set Spin length in seconds to four: it still reads as a spin and keeps the lesson moving.
-
The result stays beside the wheel.
The card next to the wheel counts how many names have come up and lists who has had a turn. Show the outcome in a pop-up would hide that, and need closing fourteen times.
Build it yourself
- 1 Open the Wheel of fortune builder and fill in the The segments tab.
- 2 Change the settings under What makes it this. Each one says where it is in the builder.
- 3 Share the link with your players, or embed the activity in your own site.
Or skip the building: copy this example and swap in your own content.
