Quartets for a room

The card game of collecting fours, dealt to three players. In learn mode every card carries the fact that identifies it.

When to use it

A classification or vocabulary topic where things fall naturally into sets of four, played in threes at the end of a lesson. A small-group station while you work with another table. A club or family evening where a card game on everyone's phone replaces a pack nobody can find.

What makes it this

Built on the Quartets generator with these changed. Everything else is the default.

  1. What players read on a card: Names + facts

    The same name list, plus a fact per card: when a card is asked for, it is shown with its own text instead of the list.

How a round runs

  1. 1 Open the play link and take a seat. You are the room’s owner.
  2. 2 Send the invite link to two more players.
  3. 3 When all three are ready the cards are dealt.
  4. 4 On your turn, ask one player for one card. Collect all four of a set to score it.

Animal families: a quartets game for three

Thirty-two animals in eight families. Ask another player for a card you are missing — they see only the fact printed on it, never the name — and lay down each family as soon as you hold all four.

Why the example is built this way

  1. Every fact points at one card.

    When a card is asked for, the player sees only its fact, never its name. A fact that could describe two cards in the set isn't a weak fact, it's a broken card.

  2. Include the ones people put in the wrong set.

    Every card prints its whole set, so a surprising member is a lesson repeated every time it's asked for. Choose sets where each card has exactly one defensible home.

  3. Every card dealt, no pile.

    Leave Deal from a pile off. Three players then start with ten or eleven cards each and the game lasts; with a pile each starts with two, and an empty hand ends the game.
