Ancient Rome mystery picture

Nine questions about Ancient Rome, each one revealing a piece of a hidden picture. Players can guess the picture at any moment, and the fewer pieces they needed, the higher their score.

When to use it

The last lesson of a topic, as a review with a picture to win. A starter where the class calls out guesses as the pieces open on the board. Homework pupils check themselves, because a piece only opens for a right answer.

What makes it this

Built on the Mystery picture generator with these changed. Everything else is the default.

  1. Guess the picture early

Players can guess what the picture shows at any moment. A right guess opens every piece; the fewer pieces open, the higher the score. Wrong guesses cost nothing.

  3. What players read when the picture is revealed

Locked with the picture, so it gives nothing away before then.

Ancient Rome: a mystery picture

Answer a question to open its piece. Think you know what the picture shows? Guess it at any time: the fewer pieces you needed, the higher your score.

9 pieces

Why the example is built this way

  1. Every answer is also a clue.

The questions are about Rome and the picture is a Roman landmark, so a pupil who knows the topic recognises it sooner. Pick a picture that gives itself away after three or four pieces, not after one.

  2. Guessing early is the game.

With Guess the picture early on, a guess box sits beside the board the whole time. A right guess reveals every piece at once and scores the pieces still closed; a wrong guess costs nothing.

  3. Three kinds of question on one board.

Each piece holds a multiple-choice, true-or-false or typed question. For a typed answer, add the other spellings you accept, like Tiber and the Tiber.
