Find the continents and oceans
The seven continents and five oceans on a blank world map. A name is shown, and players click where it is.
When to use it
A first geography lesson with the world map. A five-minute warm-up before a lesson about a country or a climate. Revision at home before a topography test.
What makes it this
Built on the Map quiz generator with these changed. Everything else is the default.
- Which map
In the builder: Map & places
- How a place is asked: Find it
A name is shown and the player clicks that place on the map.
In the builder: Map & places
- Give the answer away after
How many wrong tries a place gets before the right one is shown: it blinks on the map, or its name appears. 0 never gives it away.

Click the continent or ocean that is named. A wrong click tells you what you clicked instead, and after three misses the right place lights up.
Why the example is built this way
-
Twelve places, a few minutes.
The map asks for the seven continents and the five oceans, one at a time and in a new order every time. That is short enough to finish in one go, and to play again until every place is found at the first try.
-
A miss says what was clicked.
A wrong click names the place that was clicked instead, so a pupil who takes Asia for Europe reads "That is Asia, not Europe". After three misses the right place lights up on the map. You set that number yourself, or switch the help off.
-
The same quiz on another map.
In your copy, choose a country and click the provinces, states or cities you teach. For older pupils, change how a place is asked: a place lights up, and they pick its name out of four or type it.
Build it yourself
- 1 Open the Map quiz builder and fill in the first tab, Map & places.
- 2 Change the settings under What makes it this. Each one says where it is in the builder.
- 3 Share the link with your players, or embed the activity in your own site.
Or skip the building: copy this example and swap in your own content.
