Quiz maze

Every room asks a question and every answer is a door. The maze walks them to the next room, so the thinking is the hard part.

When to use it

Times-tables and mental-maths practice in the last fifteen minutes of a lesson. A revision round before a test, where every wrong door explains itself on the way back. A homework task for a class that would skip a worksheet but still has to answer each question to reach the exit.

What makes it this

Built on the Maze generator with these changed. Everything else is the default.

  1. Offer a shortcut to the next hall

Puts a “Walk there” button beside the next unanswered question, which walks the player straight to it, and lets a tap on the board walk the whole way. Off, a tap walks to the next fork and they find their own way through the corridors.

In the builder: How it plays › General

  2. Sections

How big each section of maze between two halls is — and so how far a wrong door walks you before the wall.

Mental maths maze: every door is a sum

Every room in this maze asks a sum, and each answer is a door. The right door leads on; a wrong one drops a gate behind you and shuts that room for five seconds — long enough to think again. Only your first door at each room is scored.

12 questions

Why the example is built this way

  1. Every wrong door explains itself.

After each step players see the note on the door they took, right or wrong. Make each wrong option the answer to a different sum and say which one, so a dead end teaches something.

  2. Twelve questions, the easy ones first.

Times-table facts they know cold open the maze, with rounding, decimals and a time sum at the end. Move the right door around too, so nobody learns that the second door keeps working.

  3. Five seconds shut after a dead end.

With the walking done for them, the pause is all a wrong door costs. For a class that guesses its way through, choose Doors shut for 15 seconds under After a dead end.

Build it yourself

  1. 1 Open the Maze builder and fill in the The questions tab.
  2. 2 Change the settings under What makes it this. Each one says where it is in the builder.
  3. 3 Share the link with your players, or embed the activity in your own site.

Or skip the building: copy this example and swap in your own content.
