Picture sudoku
The same logic with pictures instead of digits: one of each in every row, column and box.
When to use it
A reception or year one class who can't read numbers yet but can spot an apple. A vocabulary lesson where you want the new words said out loud while the class solves. A first taste of sudoku logic before the numbered grids, so the rule is learned before the digits get in the way.

Exactly the sudoku rule, with fruit instead of numbers: apple, banana, grapes and pear each appear once in every row, once in every column and once in every 2 × 2 box. Tap an empty square, then tap a fruit.
Why the example is built this way

Four pictures on a 4 × 4 board.
A 4 × 4 board uses exactly four values, so four pictures cover every one. A value you leave without a picture keeps its number, which looks odd on a board of fruit.

A colour and a shape, nothing more.
On a phone a square is small, so a picture is really a colour and a silhouette. Pick things that differ in both, on a plain white background like the board's, that young children can also name.

Tell players the pictures are the numbers.
Nothing on the board says so. Turn on Show the name and instructions to players and give the rule in one line; with Mark parts as they are answered on, each right square turns green.
