Car bingo for road trips

Things to spot out of the window, in pictures, so the youngest can play too. Nobody calls anything, and everyone in the car sees the other cards fill up.

When to use it

A long drive to the holidays, when the back seat needs a reason to look out of the window. A school trip on the coach, with a card on every phone or tablet. A day out with a group, where getting there is part of the day.

What makes it this

Built on the Bingo generator with these changed. Everything else is the default.

  1. Nobody calls — players mark their own squares

Puzzel draws nothing and nobody reads items out. A player marks a square the moment it applies to them — something they spotted, did or finished, wherever they are. You still deal the cards, open the patterns and judge every bingo.

  2. Players can see everyone’s card

Every player gets a board of the whole room: each card and how far it has got. Only for rounds where nobody calls — in a called game, watching someone else’s marks would give away what has been called.

How a round runs

  1. 1 Open the host console from your dashboard, or with “Run the bingo” in the builder, and open registration.
  2. 2 Share the play link, its QR code or a classroom PIN. Players join with a first name and wait.
  3. 3 Start the round. Every player is dealt a different card.
  4. 4 Open all three patterns before you hand the phones back. Nobody can win until a pattern is open.
  5. 5 Nothing is drawn. Everyone taps a square when they spot the thing out of the window and watches the other cards fill up. Each bingo comes to you to accept.

Car bingo: thirty things to spot on the road

Look out of the window. When you see something on your card, tap it. Four corners, the top row, then the whole card — and you can see how everyone else in the car is doing.

30 items in the pool

Why the example is built this way

  1. Pictures, not words.

Every square is a drawing of one thing, so a child who can't read yet plays on the same kind of card as an older sister. Pick things nobody can argue about: a tractor, a red car, a bridge. Not "something beginning with B".

  2. From every minute to once a trip.

Thirty things, sixteen to a card, so two children are looking for different things. Most turn up in the first half hour, a few take luck, like a fire engine or a hot-air balloon. The corners go early, and the full card takes the whole journey.

  3. Open every pattern before you set off.

The host sits in the passenger seat, never behind the wheel. Open all three patterns at the start and leave Close a pattern once it is won off, so a second child who finishes the corners still gets a bingo. After that there is only the odd claim to accept.

Build it yourself

  1. 1 Open the Bingo builder and fill in the Items on the cards tab.
  2. 2 Change the settings under What makes it this. Each one says where it is in the builder.
  3. 3 Share the link with your players, or embed the activity in your own site.
